ASRC Telethon for World Refugee Day 2022

Mon 20th June, 2022
6:00am – 10:00pm
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre is raising vital funds to support those seeking asylum, with writer Benjamin Law, stand-up comedian Judith Lucy, musician Gotye and more on the phones and showing support.

Every year on World Refugee Day, not-for-profit the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) hosts a telethon to raise money for its services, which include providing food, housing, material aid, medical assistance, legal aid, counselling and employment help to more than 7000 people seeking asylum.

This year, it's also inviting refugee-led organisations to promote and receive some of the funds from the telethon, for use on individual projects.

Acclaimed writer Benjamin Law, novelist Hannah Kent, comedians Judith Lucy, Gretel Killeen and Diana Nguyen, and musician Gotye will be on the phones taking calls and donations.

There's also a silent auction, where you can bid on a yum cha hangout with Law (in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane), a one-on-one historical fiction writing tutorial with Kent, a $2000 voucher from Sleeping with Jacques, two flights at indoor skydiving facility iFly, a two-night stay at the Oakwood Premier in Melbourne, art prints, art workshops, cooking classes, an ASRC-catered lunch, a Jamsheed wine pack and many more.

Or, you can donate $5 and go into a draw for the chance to win a $1500 Jardan voucher, a $1000 Sleeping with Jacques voucher or a Seljak blanket (open to Victorian residents only).

Last year the ASRC raised $1.6 million through the telethon, thanks to more than 15000 donors.

You can help by calling 1300 692 772 (1300 MYASRC); donating online; bidding on an auction item; or buying a raffle ticket.

From 6am to 10pm. You can watch the live appeal on Facebook.
